  1. Hah - my heart actually started beating faster when you got to the paragraph on your promotion, as I thought this was just going to be a post on some techniques you learned at the seminar.

Brilliant news: well done, Meg! Yet another of my fave bloggers moving up to purple. :D

  13. Congratulations! Purple belt is a milestone very few people ever reach in jiu jitsu.

As a small person (I'm 118 lbs / 54 kilos) who also recently reached purple belt, I didn't feel I was worthy of the promotion because I wasn't tapping every blue belt in my gym. A year later, I definitely feel worthy of my purple belt (though I still can't tap every blue belt in my gym).

  14. Dear Dolph, thank you so much for your insight; very encouraging to read. Indeed, in the twilight between belts one rarely feel fully ready, like an awkward teenager too grown to be a child but not a fully formed adult. Your recollection reminds me that it took about a year for me to feel I'd filled the shoes of my blue belt and I'm heartened to hear that you have confidence even with limited offensive success. Thanks again for reading and commenting, very much appreciated :)

  15. Out of interest Dolph, was there anything specific you can put your finger on that made you feel "yes, I'm a purple belt," or is it not something that is easy to pin down like that?
